Japanese Character Design | Peko Chan
Peko Chan is the mascot of Japanese cake chain store and sweets manufacturer, Fujiya. A Peko life sized doll with wobbly head has been greeting customers at the entrance of each store since the 1950s, in the same way the Colonel stands at the entrance of KFC stores.
Peko-chan's main outfit consists of a yellow t-shirt with overalls but her stylists at Fujiya frequently re-dress her, making sure she is always on trend!
It seems like she's making a bit of a come-back, appearing in this 2018 Tower Records campaign! It's no surprise, her look is timeless and chic. Even this lettering, which has been part of the Fujiya branding for decades feels pretty current.
