Social Distancing Poster Designs Done Well!

Visual reminders to continue practicing social distancing are important! In Melbourne (as of 30/6/2020), the active cases of Covid-19 virus has increased from 57 to 321 (and rapidly rising) in a month. The community transmission rate is back up to the same point as the peak in March.

This unfortunate situation is the consequence of complacency and too many believing that their personal excuses are valid exceptions to the rules. We did slow the spread once, and we can do it again, but this proves that everyone needs to do their part, and perhaps be reminded to do so.

Social distancing and hygiene posters are a great way to remind the community of pandemic etiquette. The Japanese design these types of posters very well. They are to the point, friendly and eye catching. Although the writing for these ones are in Japanese, the illustrations allow us to understand the message. Great visual communication transcends language after all.

Controversial opinion: Japanese government designs are more effective than Western equivalents.

These clever designs were created by a municipal employee at Kodama City Council. English version at the very bottom of the page.

Fun fact! I used to be Coordinator for International Relations at Fukuoka City Council, where I also got assigned cute design projects alongside my international relations projects. I went on to work as a Multilingual Typesetter, where I created governmental brochures in several different languages. I’m still very passionate about informative designs that transcend language and cultural differences.
